Longtime Naples resident and doubles’ Grand Slam tennis champion JoAnne Russell entered her first Minto US Open Pickleball Championships eight years ago, just two weeks after picking up the sport. Dozens of matches and 14 women’s and mixed doubles titles later, she still brought something new to the event’s ninth edition at East Naples Community Park’s National Pickleball Center that ended May 3 — a mixed doubles partner named Ivan Lendl.
