BEHIND THE ARTIST
‘Saturday Night Live’ alum staying hip in Naples
In 2025, the hit television show “Saturday Night Live” celebrated 50 years of celebrity monologues, sketch comedy and guest music artists. The mainstay of the show — and its brand identity — has been the iconic intro and outro played by a rotating cadre of musicians. It was the closing credit theme, featuring the baritone sax emitting those deep, resonant low notes, that was the signature contribution of musician Lew Del Gatto during his initial run on the show’s irreverent, drug-fueled heyday of the mid-’70s.
